As one of the smallest sport ' s groups at South, this five man team played individually but compiled their record as a team. Under the leadership of senior Bret Kugler, the golf team won eight of its matches and a pleased Coach Jim Moyers stated that this year ' s team did show an over-all improvement. Coach Moyers felt that his team was handicapped by lack of pre-high school experience and little team practice before the early fall season began but he felt that the team members worked hard and did well finishing ninth in the WOL. When asked how he had enjoyed his participation on the golf team, three year member Bret Kugler said, My experience in golf was a good one because we had a good coach. Although we didn ' t win many matches, Coach Moyers kept encouraging us. We were a small group, but everyone on the team developed a friendship for each other and we all got along well. That is essential to a team where individuals must participate on their own, for without a feeling of togetherness, little can be accomplished. 1 . Bret Kugler. 2. Richard Babineaux. 3. This Paga Sponsored By SHS ADULT BOOSTERS salute 1981 Graduates 60 ANOTHER ONE BIT THE DUST The 1980 South High football team had a great season with a final record of 6-3-1 and their opponents soon learned to fear the wrath of the Mighty Wildcats. Even though it was a season plagued by rainy nights and muddy fields, it was filled with exciting pass plays, long yardage runs, and good defense. It was a season that excited fans and pleased coaches and players. Senior center Darryl Peal stated that the team worked well as a whole. He said, As a player, I never felt like I was alone on the field. I always knew I could count on my team mates and I really enjoyed the season. Senior half-back Tim Lewis seemed to sum up the feelings of many of the players when he said, I would have liked to have had more opportunities to have been a greater help to the team. This is the spirit that creates a good team and the spirit that built a winning Wildcat team, a team that caused their opponents to bite the dust. 1.
