This drill taught the players to work as a team to cover the court and to go after the ball where ever it might be. From a good practice program, it was easy to carry the techniques to the court and into an actual game. Our biggest problem this year was our lack of experience , but we learned to work together as a team, said Jamie Jones, senior members of the Wildkittens 1980 Volleyball team. Volleyball is an all-out effort of everyone. One person can ' t play the whole court by themselves. They need the help and support of every player, stated Dawn Oliver. Although the 1980 Volleyball team did not have a very successful year, the Wildkittens played by the following rule, Whether you win or lose the match, if you have done the best that you could and given it everything that you had, you were a winner. 1. As one of the smallest sport ' s groups at South, this five man team played individually but compiled their record as a team. Under the leadership of senior Bret Kugler, the golf team won eight of its matches and a pleased Coach Jim Moyers stated that this year ' s team did show an over-all improvement. Coach Moyers felt that his team was handicapped by lack of pre-high school experience and little team practice before the early fall season began but he felt that the team members worked hard and did well finishing ninth in the WOL. When asked how he had enjoyed his participation on the golf team, three year member Bret Kugler said, My experience in golf was a good one because we had a good coach. Although we didn ' t win many matches, Coach Moyers kept encouraging us. We were a small group, but everyone on the team developed a friendship for each other and we all got along well. That is essential to a team where individuals must participate on their own, for without a feeling of togetherness, little can be accomplished. 1 . Bret Kugler. 2. Richard Babineaux. 3.
