WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY? Is the Herald coming out today? . . . Did you make a song dedication? . . . Can I buy a happy ad? . . . These were some of the questions asked during the lunch periods at South as students discussed the school paper. The Herald, a tri-weekly publication, was often the main topic of conversation around the building as students awaited the distribution of the newest edition. The ever popular happy ads and song dedications were big successes and students were always anxious to see if their name appeared in print. Editor Darryl Peal, Photographer Florence Boyd, DeeDee Lytle, Terri Castleberry, and Pam Ross attended Journalism Camp at Ball State University during the summer months in an effort to learn the latest techniques in interviewing, story writing, and picture taking. Their camp experience proved to be helpful in cementing the entire staff into a working unit and in publishing the Herald this year, for each newspaper seemed to surpass the proceeding one. I. LET ' S HAVE A PARTY ;- ; •■ • : - Despite the shouted reminders from Mrs. Field, the how could this be the day already deadlines, and students with little publications experience, the Wildcat staff learned quickly and got it all together so that they mailed the last pages of the 1981 Wildcat to Taylor Publishing Company in time to meet the final deadline. It had been a different year with lots of parties, lots of extra drill team and cheerleader practices, lots of Student Council problems, and many discussions about boys and soap operas and boys and somehow in spite of all the confusion we worked together and did a good job. We shared the weariness which came from selling adds and taking underclass pictures, the confusion of identifying 700 photos with no names, and the joy of knowing we had done a good job. We were a team and our 1981 yearbook was our victory. 1. Roxie Matteson. 2. Beth Ballard, Melinda Carter. 3. Trev Waker, Tim Lewis. 4. Tim Lewis, Rae Casey, Sonya Smith, Melinda Carter. 5.
