REACHING OUT Tri S and the Black Awareness Club were organizations at South which were dedicated to helping others. Tri S, a group of students who were concerned with spiritual service to their school and to their friends had several programs this year where local ministers were guest speakers. They also had impromptu discussions with local community leaders who had offered their lives to the service of others. The Black Awareness Club was a newly formed group which was concerned with the contributions of the Black Community. Beginning a very active year, the group held a Mr. and Miss Black Awareness contest which was won by Marvin Day and Kim Roe. During Black History week, the club sponsored the Central State Dancers in a program which featured Billy Day, a recent graduate of South, who was a solo dancer. To culminate the year, the Black Awareness Club combined its talents with the members of Student Council to . present a memorial service for the slain children of Atlanta Georgia. For both groups it was a busy but rewarding year of offering service to others. I. Mr. Jim Scoby. 2. Donita Johnson. 3. Mrs. Smith, Tim Lewis. 4. Kris Stevens, Jim Scoby, Mrs. Smith, Alicia Ervin. 5. WHAT A WAY TO DEVELOP SKILLS Each group or organization at South offered its members an opportunity to demonstrate their special skills or talents. The Math Club, under the supervision of Ms. Anne Robinson, put their mathmetical skills to work in a way that promoted spirit and performed a school service. They took charge of the selling of programs at all football and basketball games. The Chess Club, on the other hand, offered its members an opportunity to test and to improve their individual skill at the game of chess. Under the directions of Mr. Whitt and president Thong Tran, the members held tournaments throughtout the school year. The Industrial Arts group, under the guidance of Mr. Crew, are not really a structured group, but who could doubt their skills when they proudly displayed the furniture they had created in their class. Almost everyone looked with envy at the roll-top desk and wood crafted tables that have been created by some of these young men. There are many types of talents and each student had an opportunity to develop his or hers. 1 . Eddie Tolliver. 2. Brian Stroble, Thong Tran. 3.
