PRACTICE, PIZZA, PERFORMANCE The South High School Band was a very active group off the field as well as on the field and in concert halls. They worked from Band Camp in August through the Band Banquet in May and then dressed one more time for the Memorial Day parade after the seniors had already graduated. They gave concerts and practiced, practiced, practiced. The band was such a popular group this year that the band parents had to order more uniforms for both Marching Band and Concert Band as more and more students wanted to be a part of these musical groups. In order to pay for the new uniforms, the dedicated band members and their parents sold, made, and distributed pizzas. It was a lot of hard work but when they were ready for a performance, everyone was glad that they had worked hard. Satisfaction in a job well done is worth all of the effort that is needed to achieve it. I. Judy Greene. 2. Georgina Brahamn. 3. Edith Bates. 4. 1980-81 Marching Band. 5. Jim Dillahunt. 6. SINGING TO THE WORLD i What would a program be without music? What would a school be without a song to hum through class? Life would not be the same without music and thus the choirs are important at South. Not only do they perform at school-oriented activities, they also perform for various organizations outside the school. They practice very hard for their programs and develope a feeling of harmony and togetherness. We learned to work together and through our work, we achieved an excellent rating at contest, said Joanna Shorpshire, the choir president. Mrs. Marshall really is proud of the all the choirs that she stages. I enjoy working with young people and performing groups, said Mrs. Marshall. Even though practices are long and hard, almost everyone enjoys the satisfaction of the final performance. I feel that choir is important because it gives us an opportunity to meet new people and to perform in front of audiences, said Becky Plant, a member of the choir. After all, choir members just ' can ' t stop the music ' CHOIRS 23
