WE OFFER THE RIGHT TO READ jMTI Mt JOMl The library club boasted 43 student members who actively participated in the operation of the library. These library aides learned many aspects of library service such as how to circulate books, how to keep the collection in order, how to assist with reference, how to process periodicals, and how to operate the audio-visual equipment. They also learned how to raise money and how to spend it wisely. This year the club was able to present more than $1 000 worth of equipment to the school a white oak contemporary paperback rack, two Singer Instaload filmstrip and tape machines, two hand crafted white oak check out counters for the new library, and a small filmstrip projector. The 1980- 81 year was highlighted by several memorable events including the Rededication in October when thousands of citizens streamed through the library, the annual Christmas breakfast for the faculty and staff, the spring Yearbook Festival which brought to life the early years of our school, and an old fashioned ice cream social and new book show. These projects brought the club members together in a spirit of friendship and in a spirit of appreciation for our library, our school, and its heritage. 1980-1981 Officers of the SHS Library Club . . . PRACTICE, PIZZA, PERFORMANCE The South High School Band was a very active group off the field as well as on the field and in concert halls. They worked from Band Camp in August through the Band Banquet in May and then dressed one more time for the Memorial Day parade after the seniors had already graduated. They gave concerts and practiced, practiced, practiced. The band was such a popular group this year that the band parents had to order more uniforms for both Marching Band and Concert Band as more and more students wanted to be a part of these musical groups. In order to pay for the new uniforms, the dedicated band members and their parents sold, made, and distributed pizzas. It was a lot of hard work but when they were ready for a performance, everyone was glad that they had worked hard. Satisfaction in a job well done is worth all of the effort that is needed to achieve it. I. Judy Greene. 2. Georgina Brahamn. 3. Edith Bates. 4. 1980-81 Marching Band. 5. Jim Dillahunt. 6.
