- WE ' VE JUST BEGUN Graduation was anxiously awaited by almost all seniors. On Thursday, May 28, 1981, family and friends of the graduating seniors gathered at Memorial Hall to pay tribute to all those students who had earned their high school diploma from South High School. They watched 377 seniors march to Pomp and Circumstances. . The Invocation was given by Bret Kugler and the Senior Address was presented by Thong Tran. Speeches were also given by David Chapman and John Warren, valedictorian and salutatorian of the 1981 graduating class. The choir sang Tomorrow and The Battle Hymn of the Republic and then the moment that everyone had been waiting for finally arrived. Signs of happiness and relief gleamed on the graduates ' faces as they each received their diploma. As the Alma Mater was sung, the eyes of the graduates glistened with tears and the ceremony ended with the Benediction given by Joanna Shropshire. GRADUATION 143

P 5r ' U w! % ■ 1 1 m r — THE CLASS OF 1981 Graduation is a time of happiness filled with sorrow. It is a time of parting friends, proud parents, feelings of accomplishment, and decisions about the future. For some people, it is the biggest step they will take in their whole life. But for others, it is just the first step of many. No matter what size of step it is, graduation is an important part of everyone ' s life. After graduating, one must step out of the sheltered life of high school into the real world. There must be many adjustments made during this time in one ' s life. Whether one goes to college or goes straight into the working world does not matter. The change is still there along with the feeling of growing up. GRADUATION us
