— CEDAR POINT OR BUST! It was almost time for graduation and the seniors gathered for one last week-end of fun before their high school days were complete. On Friday afternoon the ' 81 seniors boarded buses and headed for a funfilled week-end at Cedar Point. For the next twenty-four hours there was litle time for rest as the seniors filled their time with swimming at the Green Tree Inn where they spent Friday night, visiting the Somewhere Else which is a popular teenage Recreational Center in Sandusky, and enjoying the rides and shows at the park. There were so many things to do and see that once they entered the park, many of the group never saw each other again until they left. When asked if she felt her Senior Class Trip was a success, Lisa Peterson replied enthusiastically, Yes, it was nice to get away with my fellow classmates, knowing that we will all have an enjoyable experience to remember in the future. Student Council officer, Sonya Smith said that the trip was much better than she had expected. When we voted on where we would be going on our trip, I was disappointed when Cedar Point was chosen. So the trip was surprisingly fun for me, she said. The weekend at Cedar Point proved to be a happy memory for all the seniors who went on the trip. - WE ' VE JUST BEGUN Graduation was anxiously awaited by almost all seniors. On Thursday, May 28, 1981, family and friends of the graduating seniors gathered at Memorial Hall to pay tribute to all those students who had earned their high school diploma from South High School. They watched 377 seniors march to Pomp and Circumstances. . The Invocation was given by Bret Kugler and the Senior Address was presented by Thong Tran. Speeches were also given by David Chapman and John Warren, valedictorian and salutatorian of the 1981 graduating class. The choir sang Tomorrow and The Battle Hymn of the Republic and then the moment that everyone had been waiting for finally arrived. Signs of happiness and relief gleamed on the graduates ' faces as they each received their diploma. As the Alma Mater was sung, the eyes of the graduates glistened with tears and the ceremony ended with the Benediction given by Joanna Shropshire. GRADUATION 143
