— TOP OF THE CLASS National Honor Society membership is an honor that many students spend their three years in high school to achieve. It is an honor that is never forgotten. Academics, participation in school activities, and leadership are the keys to knowledge for many students and they are the pillars upon which National Honor Society is built. A student that is involved in his school and in his school activities is the student that wants to work harder to obtain good grades. Senior Annette Syrus stated, I feel honored to be a member of National Honor Society since my junior year. It is an accomplishment that I am very proud of. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY 131

THE LAST DANCE Prom has long been a special occasion at South as it begins the last flurry of graduation activities. Underclassmen are saddened at the thought of senior friends who will not be returning in the fall and seniors realize that the times spent with friends acquired over the past three years are quickly coming to an end. Soft music, covered tables, and a flowing punch fountain helped to set the mood at South for the Prom this year as Mr. Barrett and the members of the Student Council took over the duties of planning the gala evening. The selection of music varied throughout the evening from mellow to rock to soul, which at one time or another gave everyone a chance to get up and enjoy themselves. Together the people, the place, and the atmosphere made our senior class of 1981 appreciated the prom committee and all involved for making this Last Dance possible. PROM -:-:-
