I I I — HIGH HONORS The highest honor a student at South High School can receive is to be inducted into the SHS chapter of the National Honor Society. To be voted into the honor society, one must be judged on scholarship, character, service, and leadership. A senior must have a 3.0 grade average plus two extracurricular activities. For a junior, one must have a 3.3 grad average plus two extracurricular activities. On April 23, nine seniors and sixteen juniors were inducted into the society. The ceremony was performed by the present seniors inducted in their junior year. The students ' parents and friends were invited to the ceremony held in the auditorium and to a reception afterwards in the library. Mr. Leonard Wilson and Miss Mary Miller were the advisers of the organization and the planners of this special day. 1 1 H NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY 129

— TOP OF THE CLASS National Honor Society membership is an honor that many students spend their three years in high school to achieve. It is an honor that is never forgotten. Academics, participation in school activities, and leadership are the keys to knowledge for many students and they are the pillars upon which National Honor Society is built. A student that is involved in his school and in his school activities is the student that wants to work harder to obtain good grades. Senior Annette Syrus stated, I feel honored to be a member of National Honor Society since my junior year. It is an accomplishment that I am very proud of. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY 131
