V pj V GHOSTLY WILDCATS On the night of October 31, 1981, at about 12:30 A.M., Steve Young crept into the South High Auditorium as he played the role of young Frankenstein in this year ' s Halloween play. The scarey events of FRANKENSTEIN kept the audience tied to their seats, and the fact that most of the audience had just returned from the local Haunted House, where they saw some of the scariest faces ever, seemed to help the haunted and eerie atmosphere that prevailed throughout South that evening. Latonya Pritchet, a member of the cast, said, FRANKENSTEIN was one of the most fascinating plays I have ever been a part of. Student director Kathy Whitt said, Working with this group was a great experience. As the bewitching evening finally drew to a close, the student body felt that the play was a credit to Halloween and the cast was hauntingly good. HALLOWEEN PLAY 113

— TOO MUCH CHRISTMAS The mini-theater was the place and the season was Christmas as the students of the drama department prepared to present a one-act play for the holiday enjoyment of the student body. Juanita Johnson, who played the part of Alice, stated, It was a good show and I enjoyed being a part of it. Although rehearsals had been a problem as the individual acts had to set their own schedules to work out their parts, by the time the first curtain went up, everything had been worked out and the show met the high standards set by the SHS Drama Department. Terry Phillips, who portrayed John, stated, I think the Christmas play was a success because almost everyone enjoyed it, and Carl Wilson, who played Arnold, the brother, said, I felt that it was a good experience in acting for me. All in all, the Christmas play offered something for everyone involved to the actors and actresses, it was an experience to perform and to try out new roles; to the stage crew, it was a challenge to create a set that would fit the mini-theater; and to the audience, it was an entertaining and enjoyable way to begin celebrating the holidays.
