HARD TO BELIEVE IT ' S TRUE The time was the week before Homecoming; the place was the plaza of the City Hall building; and the event was the naming of the top ten candidates for Homecoming Queen. It was just the beginning of an exciting week of pre-game preparations that included the final choice of five girls who would make up the homecoming court; the difficult selection of five men to escort the queens; and the demanding task of picking just the right outfit for the game and for the dance. The excitement built as the week progressed until the festivities actually began with the drumbeat of the marching band which led a pre-game parade from the school to the football field. The final step was the homecoming dance and seeing who would be named the new Queen of Queens. HOMECOMING 109

ONCE IN A LIFETIME Homecoming is a time for all alumni to return and once again be a part of South. It also is one of the most exciting events of the year, which this year included the Flashlight Pep Rally at City Hall. This was a special evening because it was the night when the top five Homecoming Queens were announced. When asked how she felt that evening, Melissa Rowland replied, I was shocked and honored that my classmates would choose me. Despite the dreary weather at the Homecoming football game, the queens looked their best. The Grand Finale of the Homecoming weekend was the Homecoming Dance where the Queen of Queens was chosen. Joanna Shropshire had the honor and pleasure of becoming the Queen of Queens and her court consisted of Donna Swain, Marsha Mills, Melissa Rowland, and Jackie Jackson. The Queen of Queens received a crown and along with the other members of the court, a bracelet presented by Student Council. The Home- coming Dance was a special night for all who attended.
