V i THE GRAND RE-OPENING October, 1980, Rededication and Open House marked the completion of the last Issue One project, South High School. The graduating class of ' 81 was very proud to be the first class to graduate from the new South High School. Some members of the senior class stated, We ' ve come a long way from the conditions we found as sophomores at South. In the fall of the year 1980 we give thanks for and celebrate this community ' s continued desire for educational and artistic progress as exemplified by this building that is without equal, stated Dr. Robert H. Lehman, in the South High School Rededication and Open House Program. When asked how has your experience changed since you ' ve been working in the new building, Mr. Wright stated, There ' s been much less vandalism; the students are taking better care of the building; and I have been more involved in visitations of the school. Also with the new gym facilities I have been more involved with public use of the building. Darin Johnson, a student at South, summed up the experience for most of the student body, Rededication was a special event; I will never forget it. It was a moment in history. 107

HARD TO BELIEVE IT ' S TRUE The time was the week before Homecoming; the place was the plaza of the City Hall building; and the event was the naming of the top ten candidates for Homecoming Queen. It was just the beginning of an exciting week of pre-game preparations that included the final choice of five girls who would make up the homecoming court; the difficult selection of five men to escort the queens; and the demanding task of picking just the right outfit for the game and for the dance. The excitement built as the week progressed until the festivities actually began with the drumbeat of the marching band which led a pre-game parade from the school to the football field. The final step was the homecoming dance and seeing who would be named the new Queen of Queens. HOMECOMING 109
