The four counselors, sparing neither time nor effort, as- sisted students in becoming educationally, vocational- ly, socially, and emotionally mature. Tests, ranging from aptitude to college admittance, were scheduled throughout the year, and students were kept well-in- formed about scholarships and job opportunities. An important aid to the graduating senior was the guid- ance received in choosing a vocation, or deciding upon a certain college or university. Striving towards a very real goal, the expert counseling was aimed at guiding the students to become self directing so that they not only recognized but developed their talents to the fullest extent possible in the school setting. Worked together, took charge of school affairs Administrators, in any organization, have a diverse, demanding job requiring many long hours of work. South High has been no exception. Supervising the office staff, compiling schedules, and setting up bus services were just a few of the numerous jobs per- formed by lVlr. Harold Stiles, assistant principal. Kept busy by student activities and a school events calen- dar, assistant principal lVlr. Henry Claassen found that the school PTA also needed his time. Yet, regardless of individual responsibility, the team approach to admin- istration received the most emphasis. The combined efforts of Dr. Pyles, lVlr. Stiles, and Mr. Claassen were very effective in the handling of school problems and affairs. All three dealt together with such matters as discipline and attendance - giving to South the best possible use of their time. Performed many duties for school's personnel Without the reliable help of the office staff, South High's teachers and administrators would never have had time to accomplish their objectives. Involving numerous and demanding tasks, the business end of school affairs was expertly handled by a clerical staff of seven. ln addition to normal secretarial jobs, sched- ules had to be arranged, textbooks issued, and grade cards distributed. The quick pace of school operations constantly added to the list of office duties. Mr. Roger Zettl, both himself and his position new to South, was the security officer. Spending each morning in the parking lot, as well as performing other tasks given him by Dr. Pyles, his job was to protect and guard the interests of the students. Working together to main- tain its high rate of efficiency, the staff spent many hours each day in keeping the school business func- tioning smoothly.
