Editor Marsha Cromwell draws up pages for the new student life section. sabre staff Planning sabre proves Rewarding experience The 1965 Sabre captured through photographic and written composition an important chapter of Colonel history. Through hours of planning, the Sabre staff assembled South’s largest and most outstanding yearbook. The staff received the Big-E award for its efficiency, accuracy, and the quality of material within the annual. A student life section and extra pages in homecoming, Junior-Senior Prom, and sports added interest and color. The Sabre was dedicated to the candid side of South and her students while the unusual cover made it the first South yearbook to don Reb colors. Meeting deadlines and working within a limited budget provided staff members with valuable knowledge of various aspects of yearbook journalism. Spring activities were given coverage in the Sabre supplement. Choosing suitable photographs to conform to page layouts Owen Hobson. southerner staff Proofs, outlines, copy Fill journalists’ days In publishing each issue of the Southerner. stall members put iu many hours writing copy, checking proofs and performing countless other tasks in order to meet their bi-weekly deadlines. Besides producing the paper, the staff was also in charge of preparing and publishing South's student directory, the Dixie Dialer. Selling underclass pictures and compiling programs for football and basketball games were other staff activities. Helping the Southerner staff in preparing these publications was a beginning journalism class which produced many outstanding contributions. Several members of t he Southerner and Sabre staffs were recognized by Quill and Scroll, an honorary journalism society. Mrs. Alma Rogers, advisor for the Southerner, provided invaluable assistance to the stall.
