For the first time in two years, the Junior Classical League has been restored to West Mifflin South. Sponsored by Mr. Bahler, the organizations kept busy with many projects. These activities included Christmas caroling for St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, a field trip to Buhl Planetarium, bake sales, Easter egg and candy sales, initiation ceremonies, and a final Roman banquet. CHESS CLUB The 1979 W.M.S. Team competed in 27 tournaments against schools like Mt. Leba- non, Keystone Oaks, and Elizabeth Forward. The league which West Mifflin belongs to con- sists of 12 schools and is a branch of the Pitts- burgh Chess Federation. All students who are interested in learning chess are encouraged to come to one weekly meeting. Those mem- bers who have a compe- titive edge are selected to compete in weekly tournaments. EXPLORERS CLUB 1979 The Explorers Club is one of the well organized clubs in our school. lt consists of 44 members, The four offi- cers of the club are: Vaugh Wilson - PRESIDENT, John Barum - VICE-PRESIDENT, Amy DeAugustino - SECRETARY, and TREASURER - Lynn Lacey. This club meets after school in the choral room, and in the evening in the cafeteria. To raise money they have hoagie sales and dues of 53.50. They use this money to take a trip to Florida. Vaugh Wilson as President has attended a conference in Washington, D.C. ln the future, the club hopes to take field trips to surrounding industries. Mr. Bugjowski is the advisor of this fine organization.
