U13 ,KHFH The junior Achievement gives students an oppor- tunity to learn how big business operates. These young people meet once a Week as a miniature company sponsored by one of the area's firms. Azor Phelps won a 3500. OO scholarship as the out- standing vice-president, a personal award, and NAJAC5 Barbara Bilski won a 5100. Top Scholars I 97 6 Val edictori an The highest scholastic grade average in the senior class this year was maintained by Wallace E. Thomas, Jr. Wallace is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace E. Thomas, Sr. During his three years at South Wallace was a member of the Honors Club and the Speech Team and was elected to the Na- tional Honor Society. Other extra-curricular activities included sewing as president and secretary of US Steel Explorers Post 249, the National Forensic League, and singing with the juior Male Chorus at Holy Trinity Baptist Church. His hobbies include reading, writing poems and stories, biking, collecting comic books, coins, and stamps. As valedictorian Wallace received the Mahoning County Medi- WALLACE E. rHoMAs, JR, Salutatorian' cal Society Roster of Scholars Lloyd Student Scholarship, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship, and the David Blinky Medical Award. He intends to pursue a career in medicine. At com- mencement he spoke on The Conquering of Ignorance. Salutatorian W 1 w i BELINDA RUFFIN BARBARA L. BILSKI Tying for second place with identical grade point averages were co-salutatorians Barbara Bilski and Belinda Rufin. Barbara is the daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Tadeusz Bilski. At Stouth she was a member of Honors Club, treasurer of Tri- Hi-Y, president of C.O.E. and president of her junior Achieve- ment Company. She was elected to the National Honor Society. Also she likes to read, swim and sew. She received the DEFord Scholarship and a scholarship from junior Achievement which she plans to use at Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pennsylvania where she will major in chemistry. At commence- ment she spoke on Past, Prsent, Future . Belinda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ruffin. She at- tended the Chofiin Career Center where she majored in fabric service. She was elected to National Honor Society, her hobbies are reading and sewing. Belinda plans to attend Youngstown State University and major in business administration. At com- mencement she spoke about Goals and Aspirations for the Future.
