ISew Director Takes On Role As “Music Man!” Following the retirement of Joe Darwich, we had a new band director, John Kantar, this year. This year the band played at many different events. They played in the Homecoming Parade, at Football and Basketball games, the Winter Concert, the Minneapolis High Band Festival Contest, the South High Band Festival with the junior high schools, and the Spring Concert. They set high goals and met them. Our band consisted mainly of sophomores and juniors with a few seniors showing leadership. They had a great year. I. Choirs Go In New Directions There were some changes made in the choral music programs this year with the arrival of new director Becky Aune. Becky began as a teacher for the Variations, which is South's girls choir. In early October she became the choral director for all music programs at South including the Concert Choir and the South Singers. The choirs combined to perform a Fall Concert in late November. Another new idea was the election of Concert Choir officers to help assist in the activities and plans of the choir. 1. The new choral director. Becky Aune. 2.
