Hostages Are Free!! On January JO, 1981, fifty-two Americans were released from the Iranians after four-hundred forty-four days in captivity. On that very same day, Ronald Reagan was sworn in as the four tie th President of the United States. The United States welcomed home the hostages and so did approximately one-hundred South High students and teachers. On January 20th, two bus loads full of South people went to the state capitol to sign the yellow ribbon that had encircled the Foshay Tower for more than a week after the fifty-two were released. They met Governor Al Quie and joined him in a ceremony congratulating the fifty-two for their courage through their ordeal. Other schools from the state were there to sign the ribbon and join in the festivities. I. A yellow ribbon over 300 feet long encircled the Foshay Tower after the release of the hostages.
