“As An Exchange Student, Svanhild Gimse — Norway The classes are harder in Venezuela. The teachers change classes and the kids stay in the same room. The government chooses the subjects for the kids and they have the same subjects all year. The teachers are stricter in Venezuela. There is more freedom here at South. I saw snow for the first time here. At our school we have different classes every day. School lasts from 8:05 - 2:25. We have fish 2 to 3 times a week. We don't have many hamburgers and we never eat corn. The weather isn't quite as cold as in Minnesota but we get snow and the Summers are hot. We go to school 9 years and have the option of continuing for another 3 years or going to a trade school. Angela Garcia — Venezuela

Your Hard Earned Money?” I like to eat out at McDonalds and Burger King. I spend a lot of money on clothes and jewelry. One of my whole pay checks went to pay for my school ring. I spend money on bowling and roller skating every week. I chow down on a lot of junk food, like potato chips, pop, and candy. Since I like cruising, gas money costs me a arm and a leg, along with keeping up on all the repair bills. Going to movies every week runs into a lot of dough. The little things that you don't think about add up. You could go broke just buying a yearbook. — 7 Feature

How Dd You Feel South Is Different From Your School?” - 9 Osmar Hibu — Ethiopia Finland In our school, lunch consists of mostly soup and bread. I like the food at South better. At our school we have different classes on different days. The teachers are friendlier here at South. The classes are more difficult in Finland. South's 1977-1978 Exchange Students pose on the front steps of the school. From left to right are Angela Garcia, Svani Gimse, Osmar Hibu and Sini Nojd. Most schools at home require uniforms. Students are not allowed to choose their subjects. The government does not require people to go to school, so it is not unusual to find someone of 16 in the second or third grade. There is no cafeteria in the school like at South so we go home for lunch. Sini Nojd —
