Electives Provide Courses For Every Interest Although South has some shortcomings, one of its strongest points has been the wide variety of elective classes available to all students. These courses allowed students to round out their programs with classes related to their own particular interests and desires. Students chose courses in Art, Industrial Education, Home Economics, Business and Distributive Education, Drivers Training, Music, Science, Languages and Math. Also available to South Students were the 2 hour Secondary Center Vocational courses for training in occupational areas. Many students were able to obtain jobs right out of High School because of these courses. By choosing electives wisely, a student was able to gain in-depth training in an area of special interest, or take different courses to try and find himself . Electives—29

Required Courses Provide Basic Training For South Students Providing a backbone for the educational experience, were the required courses taken by South students. These courses, and the amount needed, were prescribed by State Law and had to be fulfilled for graduation from high school. The required courses and credits needed for graduation were Eng-lish-9, Social Studies-6, Modern Problems-3, Gym-2, Health-1 and Math or Science-3. Students not receiving credit in these courses were required to retake them, or an equivalent, before a diploma could be issued. 30—Required Classes
