Sadie A South Tradition As the busses unloaded, 83 couples stepped out and began their Sadie Hawkins night with a tour of Malkerson's Ranch, a change from past years. When they arrived at the door, they were greeted by the chaperones, who checked tickets and hustled everyone into the unheated barn. While the couples waited for the caller, they ate, flashed pictures, got married , and did a lot of talking. What's he talking about? was the reaction during the first 20 minutes after the caller arrived. As the confusion ended, and couples began to catch on, the barn was fil-led with clapping, hollering and foot stomping. Despite complications, the Senior Class, once more , made an exciting evening out of the traditional Sadie Hawkins! L Cindy Llndgren and Mike Timmer pose for their Wedding pictures. 2. Special Effects Make Special Play With school just under way, the fall play, Dark of the Moon was starting to take shape. For eight intensive weeks the cast of 25 partook in strenuous rehearsals and did their best to entertain approximately 1,000 people who attended the three performances. The play itself was an Appalachian legend telling the story of a witch boy and a human girl who fell in love, and the conflicts that arose. The lead roles of John Human and Barbara Allen were portrayed by Mike Holmes and Joanne Brennan. The title song, The Ballad of Barbara Allen , was composed by former South student Bruce Bednarchuk, and sung by Joanne Brennan. It was one of the many special additions to the play. Other special effects were mountain fog, thunder and lightning, and flying witches. All in all the play was a big success , said Terry Hanson, director. Mr. Hanson was assisted by student teacher Janice Maas. Fall Drama—17

Winterim '76 Successful Winterim was held February 11th during Sno-week to provide students a much needed break in the normal routine and to get people together for a fun time. Students had the choice of remaining at South or going out on one of the many excursions away from the school. Some of the choices were skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, rollerskating, ice fishing, bowling, stick hockey, ping pong, movies, and open gym. All in all, the day was regarded as successful by the 600 student participants. 1. Mike Fong tries for a spare at Stardust Lanes. 2.
