Brian, Jean Reign Over 1972 Homecoming Behind the scenes at homecoming this year was the Student Homecoming Committee, headed by Audrey laquinto and Bob Hayhurst. seniors. The committee helped to plan and coordinate the week’s events, which included the night coronation. The coronation program featured music, dance numbers, and victory skits. Last year's king and queen were present to crown the new royalty. Jean Loch and Brian King. Other activities of the week included Rose Day. a hayride. Blu-Tri breakfast. Inter-class Olympics, and the game followed by the dance featuring Sterling. Financially, this year's homecoming was a big success according to Miss Mary Michael Connolly and Mr. Roger Wold, faculty coordinators. One reason for the success was that attendance was up at almost every activity from past years. This reflects the amount of participation and involvement by students. What do some South High students think about the homecoming activities? “The jocks ran it all”... “Too many candidates took it for granted that they would be chosen . The dance was really far out ... Pretty good, because I was in it ... “I didn't participate When is it? ... It got people involved from all classes ... The candidates were pretty good” ... It was better than the last two years ... What can I say—we lost .. This was Homecoming 1972 Charleston dancers entertain at the coronation program. The title fits Brian King, but not the crown. Sports Dominate Sno-Daze Celebration Attendants Mike Milbrath and Paula Melquist enjoy themselves at the fnday night Sno-Daze dance Sno-Daze. South's annual winter festival week, started on Monday. January 28. with a night coronation and talent show. The talent show, sponsored by the sophomore class, was a first this year and was quite successful, according to Maythee Jensen, sophomore vice-president. At the coronation show. Bruce Lawson and Sue Anderson were chosen as king and queen. The other members of the royal court were Lisa Paulson. Naomi Williamson. Paula Melquist, Mike Milbrath. Dave Olsen, and Dave McGregor. The week's activities were coordinated by faculty advisers Mr. Edward Villwock and Mr. Pat Glynn. The active sophomore class sold candy canes: the choir. Hostess baked goods, while German Club sold Gingerbread Men. It was a good time for those not on a diet. Sports events dominated the week, interspersed with a sleigh ride and the Friday night dance. Sno-Daze buttons were sold and this year's slogan. There's No Business Like Sno Business' was strangely inappropriate—because of the lack of snow, the annual snow sculpture contest was canceled.
