Miss Bremer accepts her doorknob. ...ANEW SCHOOL The dedication of the new school was held in the new gymnasium on Sunday October 11. Between 2,000 and 3,000 people attended the long awaited event. The program dedicating the school began at 3:00 with Master of Ceremonies, Edward P. Scdio, Superintendent of Glenlake School for boys. Joseph Diaz gave a good-bye speech to old South, and then the South High Band played the Star Spangled Banner and an overture. A Veteran of Foreign Wars. Phil Carney, presented the flags. Following this came the presentation of the school by Dr. John B. Davis Jr. (Superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools), Dean Shawbold (Principal at South), and Roy Johnson (Student Council President). Judge Eugene Minenko, District Judge, said a few words and then Richard F. Allen, Chairman of the Board of Education, presented the brass doorknobs. The brass doorknobs were presented to people in the community and teachers that have contributed much to South High. The ten people who received the brass doorknobs were: Les Barnard. Lavella Bremer, Alice Campbell, Gene Flick, Verna Long, William McMoor, Eugene Minenko, Ruth Peterson, Dean Shawbold and Betty Woodward. After the presentation, the South High choir sang two numbers. The dedication ceremonies then closed by singing the Alma Mater and the Tiger Rouser.
