South's annual girl-ask-boy winter formal was appropriately held on February 14, Valentine's day. This dance is a special feature of South's Blu-Tri and Hi-Y chapters. The dance took place in the Northstar Ballroom, on the U Campus in St. Paul. This year's theme was “On the Wings of a Dove. Colors for the Swirl were purple and pink; the object was fun. The Bagdad's provided the enchanting music for the dancing couples. During intermission a group of South's more talented students sang some great songs. They were Ann McKee, Carol Capra, and Tim Blazina. The Sweetheart, Barbara Lofdahl, was announced by the Mistress of Ceremonies, Barb Bergerson. Mrs. Mork, Blu-Tri advisor, had the honor of crowning the Sweetheart of the Nineteen-Seventy Swirl. After the dance, most couples dined in fine restaurants, and after that, it was bowling. Everyone agreed that the entire evening was a success. LEFT TO RIGHT. Randi Nelson. Barbara Lofdahl, Kathy Bine, and Karen Bine. FORMAL: SWEETHEART SWIRL

INFORMAL: SADIE HAWKINS 1 h'bbie Wolfe has a barrel of fun with Kim Nutter! On the moonlit night of November 26th, South High's lunchroom was filled with wall to wall fun and laughter, because of another annual Sadie Hawkins dance. Everyone who attended had to admit that he, or she, had a really great time. Students had a choice of dancing to music by the Perspectives, dunking someone in the dunking machine, square dancing, or just watching the creative outfits walk by. We'll never forget Marry-in Sam who had quite a job on his hands getting all those couples hitched by midnight, but Bill Loye performed his duties as minister quite efficiently. This year Daisy Mae and Lil' Abner were Debbie Wolfe and Kim Nutter. Soon after midnight the fun of Sadie Hawkins became another one of our great High school memories. LEFT: An example of the creative outfits! ABOVE: Mark Suendahl makes the fatal move!
