The ram didn't stop them: they were at every football game. The cold didn’t stpp them they never missed a hocky game. Friday nights didn’t stop them they appeared at all basketball games. This years' squad went beyond the call of duty to promote school spirit Skits, pep fests. and signs-all suceeded in giving South new life Let’s thank our cheerleaders for a year of loyalty and faithfulness. South has bestowed upon me the honor of representing my school as mascot a joy that can never be replaced This honor I will cherish forever. Jan- TIGERETTES Proudly clad in South's school colors, our Tigerettes danced at not only pepfests but also at football and basketball games. However. dancing was not their only talent they were expert carwashers. By the way. the Tigerettes acquired their unusual carwashing talent while earning money to pay for new uniforms. Since practice brings perfection our Tigerettes practiced 3 days a week during the summer of '66 and once a week during the school year Miss Virginia Nelson the advisor helped the girls choreography their dance routines. Charley's Aunt, brought the house down with laughter Jack Chesney. violently in love with Kitty Verdun, and Charles equally in love with Miss Spettigue. invited the young ladies to their room for a luncheon—in order to meet Charley's aunt from Brazil. Where the nuts come from Alas, she sends word that she will be delayed a few days What could be done? The problem was solved by forcing a good friend of theirs. Lord Fancourt Babberley. to become the new Charley's aunt by the use of a black satin dress and a lady's wig The next step was to introduce this old frump to the sweethearts, to Jack's father. (Sir Francis Chesney). and to Stephen Spettigue. Miss Spettigue's guardian The real fun begins when Donna Lucia D Alvadorez. (the real aunt) and Ela Delahay show up In the confusion Lord Babberley. posing as the aunt, got Spettigue to agree to the marriage of his ward to Charley. Jack gets Miss Verdun, and the real aunt and Jack's father fall in love and regain the fortune he had lost All claims to Charley s Aunt. 25 SADIE HAWKINS DAY This year s Sadie Hawkins Day celebration was held on November 10 To help all single girls find a Li'l Abner a list of eligible bachelors was posted on the first floor bulletin board Before the evening began, the couples attended mountain dew parties Later when they arrived at the dance, they found square dancing in the girls' gym and the Sir Raleighs keeping things going in the student lunchroom. Prizes were given for the best dressed The Daisy Mae Award went to Candy Fick and The Li’l Abner Award went to Phil Johnson The only hitch to the dance was 'Marrin' Sam” portrayed by Donny Forte. All marriages were annulled at midnight — ending another Sadie Hawkins Day 26 ALL WORK AND NO PLAY....? STUDENT COUNCIL The rousing, enthusiastic spirit of this year's Student Council clearly boosted our motto. They finally decided to accept the suggestion from their advisor. Mr Roscoe. and call their club SOHISKICL The name was derived by taking the first letters from the words. South High Ski Club, and combining them into one word You'll have to admit the name is quite unique, and it is meaningful The ski club's first year was a big success Among the many trips they took was a weekend trip to Quadna Mt in Hill City. Minnesota In spue of a lack of snow on this first trip and a few cold feet, everyone had fun Also under the instruction of Mr Roscoe. who is head of the ski patrol at Quadna. many of the members picked up a few valuable pointers on how to improve their skiing After this first trip the ski club returned to school Monday morning, a little tired, but eager for their next trip Advisor Mr Roscoe SKI CLUB MEMBERS: Anderson. No matter when the war yesterday's world wars, today's Vietnam, tomorrow's.........the death of a man will always be tragic With this in mind, we pay honor to...... ALL SOUTH HIGH STUDENTS WHO HAVE. Bill Breitbarth. linebacker. Dave Hanson, and fullback. Dave Bergerson took the big punch out of the Tiger line up The Tigers then lost to Vocational. Southwest, and Central Later the Tigers bounced back to wipe West and upset Washburn. As usual the Tigers and Roosevelt in their traditional rivalry, battled hard but Roosevelt won. however, it wasn't until the final quarter that the game was decided Highlights of the season were a 46 to 7 victory over West and a 21 to 12 victory over Washburn. In the game against West. Joe Hoyt threw for 5 touchdown passes and completed 9 of 15 for 194 yards. So they had the ball for only 16 plays the first half, but it was enough for Hoyt to throw 3 touch down passes and established 21 to 7 control In the third quarter Ollie Blue ran for 11 yards and a touchdown to give the Tigers a 27 to 7 lead West looked hopeless in the final quarter as South capitalized for 19 more points. South stopped the Millers cold by using the defensive charge of Vern Winfield Winfield played a brilliant game as linebacker as he intercepted a Washburn pass which set up a Tiger score; moreover his jarring tackle caused Washburn to fumble in the final quarter Neither team could muster an offense through the first 18 minutes of play, but South's Vern Winfield then proceded to intercept a Washburn pass around midfield. Hoyt then passed 33 yards to Terry Suneson and finished the drive with an 11 yard pass to Fred Dean Though plagued by injuries the Tigers had a satisfying season.
