The biology department offers many interesting activities for the students. Included in these are class field trips, dissecting of animals, and movies, which encourage students' interest in nature. The biology course has now been changed to include both animal and human biology together in one class. Here we see a botony class engaged in greenhouse practice. They seem to get a real pleasure in watching the plants grow. Always on hand for any emergency, Mrs. Long, our school nurse still finds time to maintain health records on each student at South besides being a P.T.S.A. representative, and chaperon at school functions. The boa constrictor shown at the left with part of Miss Bruce's second hour biology class, came to this country on a boat load of bananas and wound up in a glass house in room 10. The students force-fed him on angle worms and the boa was particularly fond of being handled as he always responded to such treatment with activity. Unfortunately during the Christmas vacation, when the room temperature was very low, he died, for the constrictor needs a warm temperature in which to survive.
