Xlr. Sherman Coryell Principal If you could be three people instead of one and stand across the street from each of South Highs front en- trances. you would see lo5S youths ranging from thir- teen to twenty years of age. leaving an institution which, to a great degree. molds their lives. just as the president of a manufacturing company has the responsibility of coordinating the policies, ac- tivities. and resources of the plant, so does our prin- cipal. Sherman Coryell. have the responsibility of co- ordinating the educational policies. the student activi- ties. and the cultural resources of our school. Soutlrs principal is liberal in his ideas, encourages vvide opportunities for the students. and is considerate toward the faculty. lf a student or an organization has 1 N J I a problem. he is a ready listener and offers good sug- gestions. lo keep a school running smoothly, to balance the needs of pupils and teachers, to try to fulfill the requirements of both business and the home demands the leadership of a man of vision like Sherman Coryell. :gifs Our assistant principal. hliss Klarjorie Shepard. was an excellent English teacher at South before pioneering in guidance. She projected a guidance program which attracted statewide attention. It has served as a model for many other schools. Now she is continuing her good work in her new capacity as assistant principal. Her primary function has been to develop the junior high program and put it on a high plane. This she has done admirably. Through her efforts many superior teachers have ip 3 af ,uf Miss Marjorie Shepard Assistant Principal been added to our staff to carry out the fusion of English and Geography in 7th grade and English and History in Sth grade. 'lihis has served as a line orientation between elementary grades and high school. Many other rehnements have been added which we are watching with keen interest. Other activities of general interest can be attri- buted to hliss Shepards influence and good judg- ment which makes South High a better school. Our hats are off to Miss Shepard-a fine ad- ministrator.
