Senior Student Council Home Room Council This organization is set up for the sole purpose of keeping the senior class a lively one. It is made up of committees for differ- ent purposes, such as decorating, service, citizenship, as well as others. We have had parties to celebrate the special occasions at Vhristmas, Valentines Day. and St. Pat- rick's Day. The Home Room Vouncil is responsible for the class pins some of the students are wearing. The club has worked hand in hand with l'op to make your last year at South 3 happy, enjoyable one. The Committees have worked their hardest and did the best they could for all of the seniors. Our class of 1052 will not be together much longer, so on behalf of the Home Room Council we would like to wish all the seniors good lucl-1 in future years. 156 E Otiicers take time out for a ride. We have had a very active and successful year. Among the activities this year were visits to Blodgett Memorial Hospital and to the Yeteran's Facility. At the Yeteran's Facility we passed cookies around the wards for a Valentine treat. It was a real experience to see that those men and also ladies liked the feeling of heing wanted. During March we held a potluck at the president's house. From there we went to the show. In June we planned a gala beach party at Grand Haven. Many of the girls have been helping out in the First Aid Room at school. During their vacant -periods they came in and did whatever they could for the sick and hurt. By having fudge and donut sales, we earned money for some of these projects, and also for some fun. Future Nurses After the debate team thumbed through Webster's Dictionary searching out long words and practicing sly remarks, they went into action, debating the city schools: Union, Ottawa, Central, East, Grandville, Creston, and Christian, and the outstate teams, Lansing Sexton, Lansing Eastern, jackson, and Muskegon Heights. The proposition this year is Resolved, That all American citizens should be sub- ject to conscription for essential services in time of war . Mr. Williams, the unique debate coach, tried to make his first year at South a good year. And it was, for South ended up with a 15 win-8 loss record. Underneath the hard facts of the per- centage record gleams the fun the debaters have had, the long car trips to debates, the stop-offs for coffee, the songs and stories. 1951-1952 was a memorable season. The Military liall was held at South Gym and will continue to be a traditional sv--N-4 event. Music was furnished by Tom Zalaoras' Hand. Bars and Cheurons II4 R.O.T.C. The Bars and Vhevrons Club is organ- ized for the purpose of promoting leader- ship, fellowship, and cooperation among members of the ROTC. Admittance to the Club is attained by promotion in ROTC' to the rank of Private First Class and the Vadetls desire to be- come a member of the Club. Club sponsored the Annual Military Ball. Committees were formed and through their extreme efforts more tickets were sold by South than the other two schools combined. Q I The band was paid for by an American Legion post this year. Every year the outstanding cadet of each year-group is awarded a gold ring. This award is made possible by the 3240 Y.F.W. which also sponsors a week-end camping trip to Bill's Lake. As always, the 3240 Y.F.W. stands all expenses. B. Merril, A. Breeden, P. Keller, G. Cleveland discuss promotions. Row l-T. Amante, K. McClain, B. Cromwell, N. Gettable, C. Bloomberg, G.
