These are yust a few of the many questions which were asked when the school term began last Sep tember The students entermg South Hngh school from other schools were welcomed by way of the ofhce staff This staff lncluded Mr Sherman Coryell pnncl pal and Mlss Llbbye Berkowitz, clerk The staff was asslsted by NX'anda Lyon, Nalda Kirby, Sally Du Pree, and Ruth Gnlman Mrs Marxon De Cook tame before Chrxstmas VZCHIIOH to take M'ss Lab hye's place when she took a leave of absence. 2 Mr Sherman Coryell, n-0-y, Gurdance 1 Taking an aptitude rest 2 Looking up reference Problems of many students of South Hiph school have been solved by the guidance depart ment under the direction of Miss Marjorie bhep 1rd who spent all of her time at school discoverlng the answer to their problems Guidance experts have divided these problems into three classes vocational educational and personal Different methods were used to solxe these drih cultles The vocational problem was solved by g x mg the student aputude tests On the basis of the test a future training suited to his likes was recom mended to the student XVith the educational problems came the plun- ning of courses in line with the chief interests of students. The future homemakers of this generation are being well prepared through the help of the Misses Clara Dunlap Laura Moore Eleanor Tumath and Sue Gross The home economics department offered thc girls home nursing foods clothing home manage- ment and personal regimen. In the home nursing class the girls were taught the care of sick peopleg while in foods' classes girls learned the funda- mentals of cooking. Clothing classes taught the art of cutting and putting together a garment. The operating and maintenance of a home was taught in the home management classg while in the personal regimen class the girls learned per- sonal care and hygiene. They were seniors now, eager little beavers full of inspirations and ideals which they thought were new. They were going to make me into the best school in towng their's was to be the best class in history. Like all other senior classes, they started out by making a lot of noise about their ideas. VUho's Umbriago? Don't be a sucker, vote Little Lulu! A kiss from the Champ Vampsf' Vote Devine Nine. These became common battle cries. l'll have to ad- mit it was quite the campaign with Kent Esbaugh parading around in his red Little Lulu dress and jim Lehan predicting the future for the class of K-15 in a bath towel turban. 3 ohn Bogema, vice-president Victors in the fight were: president, Len Storm- zandg vice-president, john Bogemag secretary, Vel- ma Klingg treasurer, Dorothy Petersong student advisersg Marjorie Grooters, james Wood and jim De Longg and the faculty advisers, Mrs. Marguerite Crossman, Pop Churm and Mr. jacob Brady. Another set of elections was responsible for the selection of a Home Room council which, presided over by Betty Bigford, started to work on plans for senior Christmas celebrations. Santa Brady was on hand with gifts for everyoneg a ring of baloney, clothes pins and clothes line, and a can of baby food. A musical review of the outstanding happenings of the year provided entertainment for the parents and faculty, and awards were given to the outstanding students of the class. A week later came THE DAY, a day for Pomp and Circumstancen and uniform caps and gowns, a day for looking back over the years spent at school, a day for looking forward to a new life, new challenges, a day for saying good-bye to teachers and kids, a day - the end. l'm still smiling, though. There was probably more work done by this small group than by any other one in the school. They saw that all the equipment was repaired and in good working order. This was a great factor in the success of' the Red and Blue teams in i944-45. The importance of these fellows was greatly realized and appreciated by coaches and team members. Now with higher requirements made by the Armed Forces more emphasis has been put on higher mathematics. Some subjects such as trigo- nometry, solid geometry, algebra, have been stress- ed more this year than ever before.
