Junior Offi er Juniors The year l938 not only was an active one for the Iuniors but also a financially successful one. The first undertaking was the election of class officers. The fol- lowing students were the winners: Robert Goldberg, president, Avanelle Parish, vice-president, Martha Io Gilpin, secretaryg Donald Lyons, treasurer, Allaine Wolfe, Eugene Miller, Alice Meier, student advisers, Mr. Gettings and Miss Laura Wilson, faculty advisers. In November, immediately after the elections were held, the activity year was started. Plans were first made for a Iunior closed party. The Cabaret Iuniare, as it was called, occurred late in February. Then the annual I-Hop Was given in March. ln spite of being so close together, both Were successful. The I-Hop had a larger attendance than any dance which had been given in several years. Equally fortunate finan- cially was the Iunior slug toss at the Kopper Karnival early in April. The choosing of rings was exciting and aroused everyones enthusiasm, including the teach- ers'. The luniors did their good deeds this year by help- ing to put over Tattler sales. They devised a plan for selling the school paper the third hour by having circulators go around to class rooms to sell them with- out disturbing the classes. This proved to be an ex- ceptionally good plan. With all these numerous activities, the Iuniors were continually occupied, but to make the year more of a success, an outside activity, a beach party at Ottawa Beach, was promoted, and as usual the picnic was an exhilarating affair. The I-Hop committee headed by Ioe McCarthy presented for the junior class a successful party. The ready cooperation oi the committee heads Was the reason for the success. The class meetings were a small replica ot the Democratic conventions for there were always some radicals whose opinions did not coincide with the rest of the class. They were, namely: Ken Wood and Mike Miller. However, the fact that the meetings were peppery and full oi life made them interesting and so attracted more students than at usually attend class meetings. The enthusiastic plannings by the chief officers of the class were usually met with approval by the class. Under the leadership of this able body, an active program for the year was carried out. The very inter- esting programs presented by the entertainment com- mittee, headed by Anita Shaver, had much to do with the fine attendance boasted by the class throughout the year. The Sophomore class decided upon a combined dart-throwing and a sling-shot booth for the annual Kopper Karnival in March. This proved a financial success as well as an added source of pleasure. Instead of the annual Sophomore dance, an origi- nal Sophomore play-night was arranged this year. lt was enjoyed immensely by all who attended. Because of the fine spirit of enthusiasm and co- operation instilled into the class, a number of helpful school suggestions were submitted by Sophomore members for selling the school paper. A fine example of this was Doris Ashby's suggestion for selling Tattlers the third hour. After enjoying a very pleasant year the class climaxed its program by following the old tradition of having a class picnic, and as is customary, enjoyed a merry time.
