K 5.24 f Lorin L. Smith 2 2 2 2-b Is the study of mathematics important to us? This is one question that is asked by many students who are suffering through the math classes of today. It is being found that a better education is demanded in almost every walk of life. Math is needed to continue our educa- tion in scienceg girls Hnd it necessary in their homemaking classesg boys are in contact with it in every project they undertake for indus- trial artsg all business courses entail some mathematicsg and it is even necessary to have a background in this field to participate in the physical education programs. It can easily be seen that a knowledge of mathematics is as essential to us as is a knowledge of the Eng- lish language. Ruth M. Baker Roy G. McBride Elmo D. Iarrett Kenneth W. ROW ONE: Gerald G. Allen Lee S. Hammel Myrtle G. Howells Thomas H. Metos Robert F. Poulson N THE BEGINNING In the beginning what was our world like? What nation contributed the wheel to aid the progress of mankind? Who Wrote the Magna Charta? In what war did we gain our independence from Great Britain?A history class offers qual- ified answers to these and all other ques- tions that a naturally inquisitive student has. History is a study of human life from the ancient times to our present hurry-scurry World. Students gain a fundamental and beneficial understand- ing of human events which are valuable in making them appreciate modern de- velopments and aspects of life. Do you know who invented the light bulb? Have you ever wondered what our country would be like if the Constitution had not been ratiiied? If so take a history course and the calendar of time will un- fold before your eyes, showing how in- teresting history can be. ROW TWO: Ralph G. Reese George B. Robinson Harold B. Stowell Shirley F. FORMULA for SUCCESS A formula for success is being sought after in every science class at South High. Science students realize that in the future our nation is going to need an increasing number of skilled scientists in all fields. These professional men and women that will be re- quired for the future are going to come from the classrooms of today. Students realize that in order to obtain success they are going to need a good basic background in science. Teachers are aiding us in establishing a firm understanding of the basic princi- ples so we may rapidly move to the higher challenges of learning. Skills in dissecting worms are being acquired in biology while chemistry offers opportunities in working with explosives. Physi- ology teaches students the importance of the ischium. These facets in exploring our nuclear age are preparing us for our role in future science research and also helping us in our search for a Formula for Successf, ji ni of l james T.
