Q31 Greetings to the Graduating Class of 1954: X Q Commencement brings a sense of pride not only in the accom- plishments of those who graduate, but in the part that the com- munity has played in continuing to recognize public education asa means forobtaininga better life and makinga bettersociety. Commencement is not iust another ceremony. It is not lim- ited to those who graduate. It is, in fact, the concern of the entire community. It touches every family, every enterprise, every facet to the community. Commencement is a tribute to our way of life. For our Amer- ican way of life can survive only if people truly understand the problems they must meet in the complex world in which we live. If the school has done nothing more than give you the toois to meet these complex problems--and created within you the attitude and desire to work with others n solving these problems--then it has achieved its main obiective. Commencement is a challenge--both an individual and social challenge. It is our prayer that you will meet this challenge in the future that lies ahead. 4' Cordially, GORDON G. HUMBERT Superintendent of Schools BOARD OF EDUCATION The Lima Board of Education is made up of seven conscientious, public-spirited citizens who give unselfishlyof theirtime and energy to the management of our schools. Bowling Green State University Co-advisor of Student Council Dear Seniors: These remarks are addressed to you for two reasons. First, each volume of the yearbook is issued primarily in your honor. Second, this is the last time we shall have the privilege of addressing your class as a group. As you come to the end of your high school experi- ences your parents and teachers are wondering how well you have learned your lessons--the really important lessons. They hope that you have learned to meet your responsibilities with courage, to have respect for the happiness and welfare of others, and most important of all, to have the willingness towork and to live a clean, Christian life. lf you have learned these things, you are well on your way to success. With such a foundation, academic knowledge can be acquired readily. As you look back over your twelve years of formal schooling, you will see many mistakes that you made. Let those mistakes help you rather than hinder you. Look forward with a determination that you will help yourself by helping others. We have confidence in your abilities. Best wishes to all, MERL O. FHCULTU CUUHCIl The purpose of the Faculty Council isto work with the school administration of Lima South to aid in solving student, teacher and administration problems. The council acts as a liaison body between staff and administration. This year the Faculty Council again organized an in-service training program for the teachers of South High School. The teachers chose to make a study of methods to improve scholastic standards and student behavior. The topics studied were as follows: I , Scholarship 2. Courtesy and respect for property 3. Attendance 4. Curriculum trends on the senior high level 5. Reading-an all-school problem 6. The extra-curricular program 7. The hour period and the core plan. Each teacher chose atopic to study--thus forming seven committees. The results of the study made by these committees and reported to the faculty at general faculty meetings. SEUHETHRIES The secretarial work at South High School was done by Joyce Thomas and Sharon Wren. Their cheerfulness, efficiency, and willingness to help teachers and students makes working with them a pleasure. AV S 33. e 1 Q . -. Ev MNH W--M L...
