WT L 'mn TSW' i W m im TO THE 1953 GRADUATING CLASS OF SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL: On the evening of June 5, 1955, YOu will be alumni- your high school days will be over. But the education, the foundation, you have built at South High School will be with you forever. Undoubtedly. your goals are everyday, human desires. You Want normal lives in a peaceful world, freedom to work in professions or occupations of your choice. The realization of those goals will be your greatest success-for only a few generations in history have enjoyed that privilege. I am confident this does not mean that your class aims to give the world nothing more than one-hundred-fifty five in- habitants. Far from it. If your class can give the world ten executives whose in- . terest in their employees as fellow men and women is not destroyed by their lust for profits, you shall be successful. lf you can give the world five doctors whose greatest joy comes from bringing peace and comfort to the sick, then you shall be successful. If your class can give to the world ten salesmen who serve their customers with truth and integrity, and perhaps six teachers with the will to inspire their students to a life of accomplishment, then you shall be successful. If from your class can come five people who lighten the load of others through art, music, or writing, then you shall be successful. If from your class can come one minister whose love of people is exceeded only by his love of God, then you shall be successful. Perhaps from your class will come five lawyers whose pro- fessional conduct will be based upon right and iustice. and not legal expediencyg and perhaps eight engineers who will give to all classes the benefits of scientific progress. If so, you shall be successful. If from your class can come six nurses whose creed is loving service. then you shall be successful. If your class can give to the world 89 women who will build 89 homes for a new generation, and if you can give 66 men whose first interest will always be the family, then you shall be successful. If from your class can come 155 people who desire to put more into life than they ever expect to get out of it, , , l . then you shall be successful. And if. a generation from now, you can sit in a similar auditorium and watch your children leave high school with the same freedom of choice that has been preserved for you,-then you shall indeed be successful. XVith sincere good wishes. GORDON G. HUMBERT, Superintendent BOARD OF EDUCATION The Board of Education is the legal agency designated by the state to be responsible for the conduct of educational affairs delegated to the school district. The powers of the Board of Education are derived from the state legislature. Members of the Board of Education are elected by the citizenry of the community in which the schools are located.
