I4 g.. C SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION MERL 0. REED fA. B., M. A. Mr. Merl O. Reed has been our principal for three years. He has been aided by Mr. Bernard Roush, assistant principal, and Miss Zalia Har- bough, dean of girls. The secretarial work was done by Mrs. Leonard Klausing and Miss Audrey Glover at the beginning of the year followed by Mrs. John Rutledge and Miss Carolyn Fox in November. To understand and to guide are the earnest goals of our administration. Making schedules for teachers and pupils, supervising vocational and intelligence testing, and fostering a spirit of cooperation among students, parents, and teachers are a few of the services rendered. I I BOARD OF EDUCATION During the three years in which Mr. Cordon C. Humbert has been superintendent of schools, the Board of Education has embarked upon a much- needed building program. An attempt was made to begin where the need was greatest. To date, Lincoln School has been completed, South, Central. Carlield, Whittie1', Longfellow, and Roosevelt have been rehabilitated, the new Emerson, Irving, Low- ell, and Washiiigtori-McKinley have been started: and the contract for Horace Malin has been let this spring. A new senior high school is planned as the next step in the program. Improvements have been made in our health pro- gram, sight-saving class, slow-learning class and testing program. Strides have been taken in cre- ating interest on the part of the public in a sound educational program through school-community councils and committees. GORDON G. HUMBERT--BS., MA.
