Senior Class History We, as members of the January, 1941, graduating class, began training at South High School in 193 6. Throughout the years we have endeavored to up- hold our school's traditions of high scholarship and participation in activities. Among' the highest in scholastic ability were Eloise McMillen, Joe Tordiff, Martha Logan, and Mildred Patterson. Several members of our brigade were musically inclined. Robert Woll, Bernard Line, and Ho-ward Hover played in the band and during her junior year Bettye Scott was a twirler. Bob Woll also played in the orchestra for three years. Since the glee clubs and chorus shared in our interests, several soldiers sang in the Operettas, Mary Jane Stewart having parts in Betty Lou and An Old Kentucky' Garden, and Maxine Spencer, in Blow Me Down. Because the boys in our forces were very much interested in sports, they contributed a great deal to the athletic programs. A number of our soldiers participated in the football battles. Paul Workman, who was captain of the team his senior year, and Virgil Conrad each saw four years of outstanding play on the gridiron. As a junior Paul Workman was selected All-Ohio Tackle. Track, baseball, and basketball had their places in the interests of our boys. Clubs, too, had their part in the activities of our ranks. Although live students belonged to the Ye Merries' Club, the Blue Triangle, Girls' Welfare, and Hi-Y clubs proved even more popular. Paul Workman was very active in the Hi-Y clubs, holding both local and district oflices. The soldiers of our unit have been privileged to participate in several plays. In Going on Seventeen Eloise McMillen, Bob Robinson, and Paul Workman had roles, while Wayne Miller and Harold Wolff carried our banners in The Queen's Husband. During their senior year Waneta Flack, Helen Rohrer, Betty Rhoades, and Elda Shafer served as typists for the Rainbow, Joe Copeland was the student business manager for the school paper and was also on the 1940 Pot O' Gold staff. . Franklin Loy saw four years of action as a member of the stage crew. Our march to victory was led by Paul Workman, president: Eloise Mc- Millen, vice-president: Mary Jane Stewart, secretary, and Don Still, treasurer. The final battle was won and our term of service ended on January 16 with commencement exercises, when Professor W. E. Binkley gave the address to those accepting their diplomas. -Elda Jean Shafer twenty-four
