Served as Chemistry teacher at South High School for six years. At Schenley High taught Chemistry and later became Vice-Principal. As Principal organized the Her' ron Hill Iunior High School. Naval Academy at Annapolis during Senior Year at South High School. Graduated from Naval Acad' emy in 1916. During the war helped trans- port the Yankees across to France while stationed aboard the U. S. S. South Carolina. Spent next eight years at Coco Solo on the eastern coast ol Panama working on board submarines. Took to lighter-than-air craft then and tor seven years worked in this division of the Naval Department. Served as Lieutenant-Com- mander on the dirigibles, Los Angeles, Akron, and Macon. Went to Balboa on the west- ern coast ot Panama his present position, alter spending fifteen months on the U. S. Destroyer Blakely. Now supervises, as Captain of the Port, the coming and going ot all ships in the Panama Canal. .191 .i l l937 l

Edward G. Albright Graduated in Old Building Days with mid-year class of 1920. Enrolled immediately after graduation from South in Uni- versity of Pittsburgh, School of Business Administration. Became affiliated, upon com- pletion of his college course, with Pittsburgh Mercantile Co. Worked for a number of years as Advertising Manager. M a d e General Merchandise Manager, as a reward for the introduction of new ideas and for meritorious service with the company. Stated to Year Book inter- viewer that he intends to con- tinue in the busines field. URIDLE Surah M. Soffel Lived in Mt. Washington dur- ing her girlhood. Finished at South High School in l900. Completed her course in Old Central. Graduated from Wellsley Col- lege, Wellesley, Mass. in l904. Taught in the Crafton schools for several years. Took the law course at the University of Pittsburgh, gradu- ating in Iune, 1916 and being admitted to the bar later the same year. Practiced law thirteen years. Appointed to the Bench of the County Court of Allegheny in 1930, her present position. Advised her Year Book in- terviewers that, Any profession is difficult for a beginner. Gen- eraly a person in a profession has a hard time getting estab- lished. A woman in the law?
