Row IV Bob Aide so Denn s Po nten Da e Bi m ngham THE SPARTAN GRAPPLERS completed their best season at South High under the direction of Coach Bonheim and showed outstanding im- provement over the past two years. The Varsity team won 9 of their II dual matches and the JV's defeated IO of their I I foes. The Spartans placed second in the league finals and had every man placing fifth or better. Den- nis Pointen at T83 pounds and Dave Birmingham at 2I8 pounds won first place in their weight divisions. This season the Pioneer League finals were held at South with the Spartans hosting 6 league teams and over 900 spectators. Representing South in the CIF finals were Ralph Freas and Andy Harris. Both did very well in winning their first matches, ln the second round Ralph lost a close decision and was eliminated while Andy went on to take second place honors in the I23 pound weight class. Both boys scored ten points between them to place South thir- teenth out of IO6-schools that wrestled this year in the Southern California area.
