VARSITY TEAM. Row I: Cliff Davis, Bob Wehrhan, Jim Mannix, Steve Lockhart. Row II: Jerry Schipper, Leonard Wood, Mike Andrews, Joe Austin, Cliff Roy. JUNIOR GUARD JIM MANNIX drives around Aviation's Bill Featherstone. Jim scored two points on this play and ended up with IO points. This was the final game with the Falcons on the Spartans' home floor. COACH JIM HANNY guided his team to a fourth place tie wtih Torrance and El Segundo. He has developed many fine ball players and has a lot of potential for next year's season in the Bay League. Wm? ogaaleflaf SOUTH'S FIRST AND ONLY season in the Pioneer League was spotlighted by upset wins over rivals Torrance and El Segundo, both of whom the Spartans tied for fourth place in league play. When the Spartans enter the Bay League in the fall they will take a 4 win-8 loss league record with them. Headed by Joe Austin, who was a first string all-league selection, the team compiled an overall seasonal mark of 7 wins and l3 losses. For the third straight year Joe was named most valuable player. This year he had l7.9 points a game average for the season. Coach Jim l-lanny will lose three Seniors: Cliff Roy, Cap- tain and three year Varsity letterman, Jerry Schipper, this year's most improved player , and Steve Lockhart. The team came along to score a decisive non-league win over Chadwick High of Palos Verdes, as Austin set a new school single game scoring record of 33 points. Then the team rolled past Lennox, Torrance and El Se- gundo Austin also set a new season scoring record, sinking 358 points in the 20 games played. STARTING THE GAME off with a jump ball is Cliff Roy l43l on the Spartan home floor against Culver City.
