CAGE REVIEW OUR BULLDOG basketball team had a fine season this year under the capable leadership of Coach john Colmery. The team chalked up a 11-7 record in regular league play and a 16-8 season record including district and regional competition. The cagers faced some strong opposition during the season's play. Some of the tougher teams they played included state-rated Canton McKinley, Steubenville, and Columbus East. After the season was over they played their best in defeating Circleville, Upper Arlington, Newark, and St. Charles to take the lower bracket of the Central District Toumament. Our arch rival, North, won first place in the upper bracket and eamed a trip to Toledo to compete in the Northwest Regionals while South journeyed to Berea, winning their first game from Cleveland South, only to lose to a speedy Cleveland East Tech in the finals. GEORGE DEVLIN and ROGER HACKETT were co-captains for the season. George took second place in the city in scoring and Won a first-place berth on the All-City Squad. Teamrii te Bill Green also made first string guard on the All-City Squad. George Devlin, next yearis captairf? was awarded a plaque for being the most valuable player of the season. Bill Green received a plaque fordiaving the highest percentage in four shooting. Don Dicke was named the most valuable substitute. At all times during the season the basketball team showed fine sportsmanship and good conduct which made South very proud of them. if Qqugy, 1 lx ,muses qxgkll' Coach John Colmery, Student Manager Larkin O'Neill.
