1 8 PIGSKIN REVIEW Despite the efforts of their new gridiron coach, Gene Yontz, the Bulldog eleven witnessed a poor season because of lack of experience, depth, and material. Their over-all record was 2 wins and 7 losses. South opened the season by winning one of their two games of the season by crushing Upper Arlington 21 to O. Ron Callanfler and Charlie Peake led the Blue and Gray attack. Bill Shinn also scored. Halfback Charlie Peake was a standout for South, although they were upset by Grandview 14 to 0. South lost to a powerful 'l'o1-edo Central 'Catholic Team 27 to 7. Sophomore Ron Wilkey got the only score. In the city league opener, Central's potential city league winners rolled over the Bulldogs, 28-6. Although the Bulldogs looked very impressive in the lirst half and lead by a score of 14 to 0, the West Cowboys came from behind to win 19-14, Again Ron Wilkey led the attack by -scoring two touchdowns. Aquinas Terriers were too much sa the Bulldogs went down in defeat 19 to 0. As Homecoming Queen Ann Chamberlain reigned the Bulldogs came through to upset the North Polar Bears 27-14. Charlie Peake starred as usual. South next traveled to the home of the city champs, Linden McKinley. The upset-minded Bulldogs put up the most vicious light of the year although they went down to defeat 13-7. Langley scored for South. In the final :tilt of the year, South lost to East 13-0. 4 Charlie Peake and his little brother Dennis received all-city berths.
