CAGE REVIEW BY DICK PAPAI Our cagers won the City League title with North causing the only real trouhle. The Bulldogs defeated North at the coliseum on Henry Pell's last second foul shot 48-47, and on the home court, 60-57. Their only league loss was a forfeit to Central. South lost to Middletown, State Champs, 59-92, and Hamilton, a strong south-west powerhouse, 54-62. Tournament play started with the Bulldogs defeating St. Charles 60-40. South didn't bother with the law of averages, heating East 47-89, and North 68-48, both for the third straight time. After trailing Newark 17-ll, at the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs pulled to a 25-24 lead at -half. Pell and Howard each had 8 points. South pulled ahead 85-82 and then Pell, Owens, and Howard fouled out. Newark then began to close the gap and finally defeated South, 46-40, for the district title. Frank Howard, Sam Pointer, and Henry Pell were All-City selections. Howard, Pointer, Pell, and Benny Wright made All-Tournament. Sam Pointer also gained All-State honorable mention.
