PIGSKIN REVIEW BY PAUL LLOYD With Coach Chuck Gilbertis fine instruction, our Bulldogs had one of their better seasons. They finished third in the league with 4 wins and 2 losses. Their season record was 6 wins and 3 losses. After leading 42 of the 48 minutes, South lost their annual opening game to Arlington, 19-13. They opened their home season by routing Grandview, 42-26. Charlie Peake and Bon Cal- lander led the attack. West defeated the Bulldogs, 38-6, in the first league game. Charlie Peake went 80 yards for Southis only score. They defeated Aquinas, 27-6, with Co-Captain Don Wirtz going 90 yards to pay-dirt. Earl Joiner, Charlie Peake, and Ron Callander also scored. The following Friday the Bulldogs put on a fine show for Homecoming Queen Sherrie Phillips, winning 26-14 over Linden. Ron Cal- lander had a 102-yard run, one of the sea-son's best. For the first time in 15 years, South defeated North. Co-Captains Dick Papai and Don Wirtz led the attack which saw the Bulldogs on top, 31-18. Eastls speed was too much as we lost to the Tigers, 20-6. Dick Papai scored South's only T.D. Next South drew a bye in the seven-team league, and went to Marion. Led by Elbert Du- benion, they Won 19-14. A Win over Central, 39-20, cinched third place for the Bulldogs. Elbert Dubenion again led the score parade.
