I ' ' ' U' 1 ' ' ' ' ' , I A S ' HISTOR By NANCY E. BORUCH ln a whirl of dates, games, and parties, the first two years of high school slipped by, and one day we realized that we were the ,lunior Class. ive were the upperclassmen. We were the ones now looking down on the freshmen. It was then that our class really began to hum with activity. Une of our first duties as a class was to elect officers. We filed into Mr. Dumas's office and placed our four slips of paper into the four little boxes. choosing for leaders Dick ,ludkins for Presidentg Nancy Boruch for Vice-President lwell. well. local girl makes good!! 4 Tom Humphrey for Treasurer: and Mary Hardiman for Secretary. At just about this time football weather was here, and each week we were at the nA ,field to encourage our boys. There were several from our class who contributed their bit to the team that yeariDick Judkins. Tom Phelan, and Dick Tufts. That football season was considerably brightened with several open-house parties which were origin- ated and made popular by one of our most viva- cious cheerleaders, Gingie Bryson. These get- togethers became quite the thing. Anyone who was ANYONE was sure to be there. To start off the social year we girls once more gathered all our courage and went scouting for dates to the annual Glee Club prom. The theme of the dance was Moonlight and Roses. Wie were indeed proud to have Emily Sullivan, of musical fame, in the queen's court. Basketball was still THE sport at South, and we were packin' 'em in at every game. Bruce Gagnon, Bill Banks, Dick Vinton, and our three- sport star. Dick judkins, played for the team, doing a fine job. lncidentally, Dick ,ludkins was awarded the .lohn Pappas Award for best showing the ,lohn Pappas characteristics of a gentleman. scholal'. and atlllete. This was a well-deserved honor for Dick. Soon after the basketball season the prom com- mittee got rolling on what was the best ,lunior Prom yet given at South. lAhemll ln spite of the fact that we came uncomfortably close to not having ANY dance. k'Serenade in Blue was cer- tainly a success, thanks to the hard work and sleepless nights of Peg Ross and Bill Solin. who were co-chairmen of the dance. Mary Hardiman was the lucky queen. In her court were Pat Foley. Mary Grant. Cynthia Green, Terry Soly, Bobby Dubuc, and. of all things, Nancy Boruchl It was a sad day when we saw all those decorations coming down after the dance, but there was still the Senior Prom and lots more fun ahead of us. M . . H QwKM To top off the year, there was our quite unfor- gettable excursion to Ocean Beach. It seems that some of our spcndthrifts like Al Cutty and ,lon Foley found that all of their money was gone before one oiclock, and they spent the rest of the day. sllall we say, 'fspongingf' from their friends. That day Tom Humphrey found out that manag- ing the class lnoney wasn't an easy task after all. The summer was spent in a series of trips to the 'ihillf' and to the Capeifor the lucky ones- with evenings at Wy'll1all's. Uh, yes, there was solne work, too. As all summers do, the summer of '54 flew. tPoetry!l And next, kind sir, there we were. And now we're here, at the Senior year. Nlust be the influence of Shakespeare. This year, for all of us, could very well be the best of our lives tat least up to this pointl . Never before did we appreciate our friends and our school as we now did, realizing that in just one year we would be separated lyou know, you can get pretty corny about this-however, we all know that it's truer. We picked some crackerjacks for class officers this year-Bill Solin for President: Anne Vlfilder for Vice-President: Gerry Zarr for Treasurerg Terry Soly for Secretary. YVe've had some very novel affairs which have depended on these four. Their success has shown us that our choices were wise ones. These class activities were always loyally Sllll- portcd, and perhaps, as a result of our varied social life, we have come up with several starry- eyed couples. We have ,lean Gagnon and Chet Locke, Marion Dixon and our poet Buz Kelly, Bev Bock and ,lohn Leger, and, of course, ,loan Messier and Bob Gleason. bp0dlClllg of Bobs ld llke to Illtllll0Il that Bob Lonway was 11111111 d to the All Clty football IPAIII thls past year He 1s all ayld football enthuslast and has always beell all asset to us 011 the lllaWlllV fied The Cllflellll Call Club presented a glggle provoklng COlllfllV last December Gentle Hearts and Murder l0lll HlllllIlllTlW, Bob Tanona Sue Welder, Blll TdllllChTlllg allfl Allllt Wlleler all took part dllfl Have ste fllllg ll6I'f0I'llldllttQ Peg..
