At the Hrst monthly meeting, officers were elected and the new members were initiated. The annual Kiwanis-Faculty banquet was held in the Girls' Gym on October 25. Also, in October, the club held a party at Wfindcliff, and on November 22, the mem- bers enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner at Kibbie Hall. The faculty play january Thaw, presented on No- vember 19 and 20, was one of the Club's outstanding achievements of the year. Not only is it one of the few orchestras in the State, but it ranks tops with high school orchestras anywhere. Besides giving its two annual concerts, the orchestra will again enter the Music Festival in Kalamazoo this spring in hope of duplicating last year's First Division rating. Because the orchestra contains the difficult stringed instruments, a good showing is a real achievement. A few of the selections played at the winter concert were: Cordoba by Lecuona, Perpetual Motion by Bohm, with the solo part by the lst violin section, and the Desert Song by Romberg. The Festival selections are: Romantic Overture by Johnson, Allegro by Avison, with the string orchestra only, and Finale from the sth Symphony bv Beethoven. K. Familiar Carols-and 5. Religious Christmas music. The program was effectively opened with Fred Waring's arrangement of the Night Before Christmas and brought to a stunning conclusion with a nearly perfect performance of the Halle- luiah Chorus. After the Christmas program the Choir was busy preparing themselves for the big May Festival at Kalamazoo and their Spring Concert in South Haven. The Choir also sang for graduation exercises, assembly programs and exchange programs through- out the year. -lean Carnahan ,lane Collins Barbara Dillcy Shirley French Marilyn Fritz Loris Gumpert Jeannine Harrington Harriet Harris Rosemary Hartmann Dorothy Hoag Betty Lehman Christine Lyman Page Fo t, eight The Choir members this year are: Phyllis Lyman ,Io Ann McNeil Marion Morris Christine Nevans -lean Niffenegger Dorothy Osman Mary Ann Peterson Delores Thompson Ronald Knittel Bob Mort Ben Underwood Barbara Baer Lucie iebold Mar Eldredge Ruth Kalhorn Kay Kalhorn Phyllis Kaufman Charlotte Meyer Mario Miller Mary Jean Overhuel Charlene Patner Marlene Patner Loris Porter Nlariori: Warren jean Wierenga Peggy Soergel Bob Ditch jack Fennell Gerald Paquin Don Wank Harold Filbrandt Marvin jones Albert Plaehn jerry Soergel Guy Paquin ,fi gif, g cw av, igglllP i T he Senior High Girl s Glee Club consists of all the girls in Senior High vsho are interested in group singing The Glee Club under the dire tion of Miss Lorraine uick practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays the second hour of the day The Club participated 1n the Christmas program and the annual Spring Vocal Concert Music ran in from modern to classical arran ements are sun with novelt numbers for variet 8 S S S Y Y The girls in this group are Diana Bell Patricia Burrows Jane Collins Margaret Crawford Lucie Diebold Barbara Dllley Mary Eldredge Shirley French Frances Graham Loris Gumpert June Haines Jeannie Harrington Harriet Harris Lorraine Hendrickson Norma H111 Dorothv Hoag Ruth Kalhorn Mary Lee Kiernan Patsy Lilly Joanne Lieske Marilyn Lowell Christine Lyman Phyllis Lyman Jo Ann McNeal Ann Metro Jeanne Mileham Helen Nolan Joyce Oliver Valda Orr Marx Jean Oxerhuel Lillian Price Barbara Ridley Beverly Vanderboegh Shirley Vanderboegh Bonnie Vleaver Pcge Fony ,ar VY pq 'Q'- .aw 'C 7 sv- if 1 i xt 'CD'4 -.J AX N.7M cz ..-.X 'iff 'QQQDTT J' ? l 0 I CLlfl'l 0l'l'lI7ll!tQQ Tht Pro r1m C,omm1tttt IS 1 group ot thrtt boxs md thrtt urls ehostn by tht Goxtrnor and approx td bx tht Stnltt Tht spttth IL1LllCI' Nhss Rttd 15 the d res. or Thus LOITIFIHIIL xx IS respons1blt ftr the manx tnjox 1blt zssemblx programs xxe had th1s xear Thtre xxere .1 xar1ttx of dlfftr nt programs presented suth IS exchange progrlms xx1th other sehools TNOXILS outs1dt speakers suth as lek R1ten berg, md llso some ot our oxxn h1 h sehool talent It ns tht Program Commrttet that plans 1rd arranges tht annull Th1nks.,1x1ng and Chrlstmxs programs eath xtar Due to the nexx sthool sehedule II xx as 1mposs1 ble to hzxt tht usu1l number of sponsor group programs Tl1tn1t1nl:t1s111 th IHS -U Progrlm Lomnnttt 1r Bob ones uk ltnntll Ttd Vx lnk C 1rolTtn hopen Ixlllfl Alltls md xllI'llXl1 lrltl l Pdf? f55l5fCl,I'lfZ5 NVhat s a good book? This year the class of 1949 presented the play I Remember Mama, by John Van Druten. The play had a large cast and it was not an easy one to produce. However, those who saw the movie version and the Broadway production were not disappointed. The play was well received and showed the great amount of work put into it. The stage-hands deserve much credit also because they certainly did a fine job with the many scene changes. The people of South Haven also deserve a vote of thanks for their excellent cooperation in searching their attics for the many properties needed in the production of our play.
