WRESTLI South High's wrestling Bulldogs extended their unblemished record to two full seasons, and climaxed this accomplishment by winning the first Class C Section Championship conducted by Section 2. Captain Porter Reed, Sectional Champion in the 133-lb. class, thus rang down the curtain on a two-year competitive career, during which time he won nineteen matches without ever being defeated. In winning the Northern Conference Championship, South Coach A'1d'f'WMfGUffin High racked up double wins over Glens Falls and Whitehall, and three victories over Corinth, scoring a total of 239 points while losing only 51. Coach Andrew McGuffin led a full squad to Linton High School in Schenectady for the Sectionals, where South High, a dark horse, surprised a great many schools that had partici- pated in inter-scholastic wrestling for many years, and finished sixth in a field of nineteen schools, winning Class C honors in the process. South High's 43 points in the Sectionals equalled the total points scored by the other four class C schools, and outscored such area giants as Glov- ersville, Albany, Saratoga, Bethlehem Central, and others. Semi-finalists for South High included Tom and Mike Wood, Dick Jacobie, and the eventual champion, Porter Reed. ' Four seniors, veterans of two years' undefeated teams, will be sorely missed as Coach Mc- Guffin's mat-men of the future attempt to continue their all-winning ways. In addition to Captain Reed, the Seniors are Bob Canales, Tom Wood, and Steve Ostrander. Next year's squad will, however, include such stalwarts as Mike Wood, Mike Larrow, Jerry Balcom, Pete Reed, and Bill Varney, all with outstanding records. Enthusiasm for this relatively new sport, increased by the success of the past two seasons, has greatly influenced interest in Wrestling, and South High eagerly awaits the 1960-61 campaign.
