' non-league if overtime Consecutive wins against Whitehall and Fort Edward opened the second half of the season, and the Bulldogs took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter against St. Marys on the Warren Street court, but the Kerries exploded for 24 points in eight minutes to win, 51-46. To conclude the season, Conference runner-up Hudson Falls and champion Glens Falls repeated their earlier wins, although the Lennox-men made the Indians earn their victory the hard way. Old-time Sara- toga County League opponent Corinth lost by 10 points, and the final game saw South High blast the Granville team on its own court, 88-50. Next year's team will miss four talented Seniors, all of whom earned their Block S for basketball. Big Jim Prendergast scored on 4896 of his shots, and was a demon clearing the boards, while back-court operatives Ron Jarvis, Scott Gray, and Don Flewelling were used altemately as starters and in reserve. Coach Lennox will build next year's Conference contenders around a seasoned quartet of front-court artists, Wayne Jones and Hank Dwyer, and playmakers Pete Wood and Lou Luciano, all of whom will be playing their final year for South High. Leading the race for the fifth starting berth is another foursome of Varsity Reserves: Mondie Leombruno, Bill Elder, Gary Mattison, and Bill Alden. VARSITY BASKETB LL In its sixth season in the Northern Conference, Coach Ron Lennox's court squad got off to a slow start, due to lack of experience, and finished the season in sixth place, with five wins and nine losses. Only four veterans remained from last year's squad, and the early part of the season was devoted to finding the proper combination of players. As a result, South High lost its first five Conference games, winning only from Whitehall in the first half of the Conference sched- ule. On the backstretch, however, the Bulldogs won four of seven games, defeating Sectional contenders Granville Q88-505 and Fort Edward C63-595 in the process. foul shooting average. in the return match. Wayne Jones, with a 16-point average in Conference play led the Red and Blue offense with 260 points and was outstanding clearing the offensive rebounds. Henry Dwyer and Lou Luciano had 195 and 189 points, respectively. Big Jim Prendergast, master of the defensive backboard, almost doubled his output of the previous season scoring 154 points. Playmaker Pete Wood had more than 35176 of the entire team's assists, to lead in that department, while personally bucketing 134 points.
