Next season's Mat team will be an experienced one. Coach Andy McGuffin will start with a nu- cleus of Juniors Porter Reed, Bob Leombruno, Tom Wood and Bob Canales, and lower class letter winners Mike Larrow, Jerry Balcom, Cliff Mull, Bill Varney and Jim Maguire. Fighting for first string positions will be a half-dozen of this year's reserves, including Bill Mull, Steve Ostrander, Louis LaValley, Paul LaValley, Bruce Bidwell and Preston Jenkins. .K south high's first wrestling team - undefeated champions Gutscoring their opponents by more than 200 points, South High's first wrestling team registered an undefeated season in the Northern Con- ference with six victories for Coach Andrew McGuffin. Shutting out White- hall twice, and winning a pair each from Corinth and Glens Falls, the Bulldog Matmen were really impressive in their debut. Bob Leombruno, with 6 pins in 6 matches, led the all-conquering Bull- dogs, while Captain Porter Reed, Jerry Balcom and Tom Wood also won all 6 of their matches. Wrestling 5 matches, Cliff Mull scored 5 pins, while Jim Maguire was undefeated in his 3 matches, and Fred Abare pinned both of his opponents before a shoulder iniury kept him out of competition. Bob Canales pinned Pekins of Whitehall in 22 seconds for the fastest score of the initial season. Tom Wood had a 28-second pin over Corinth's O'Connell, and Leombruno had third best time with a 30-second pin over Taft of Whitehall. Of the twenty-man mat squad, only four are Seniors and have completed their high school mat career. Larry Hawkins, who won 5 of his 6 matches by pins, and Fred Abare, undefeated in the season, were members of the first team. Fred Abare takes Top: the advantage over FRED Jerry Balcom as ABARE.
