:aches Youker Gray, and cGuffin, and a serious Q iuad, watch the actio n a T a va I y Under the leadership of Head Coach Lyle Gray and Line Coach Andy McGuffin, ue Varsity Football team had one of the most successful seasons since South High has een in the Northern Conference. Early in the season, Coach Gray started the team on s way with the split T formation plays, typical of recent Bulldog teams. After learning ie strong points of the line, the coaches added some new plays to the T series which :lded strength, as well as variety, to the Bulldog's bite, Due to the fine workouts planned Jr the Canines, they found themselves among the top conditioned teams in the Northern onference. This showed up in the fact that there were no serious injuries received by nyone except for a scraped knuckle or turned ankle. In the scoring column this year, Larry Hawkins registered three touchdowns and ne conversion for a total of nineteen points. Helmsman Mike Oddy, Halfback Sam Grover nd End Bob Canales contributed twelve points each, and Dick Clark tallied four con- ersions, a .500 average. The Line, handicapped by lack of weight, turned in good showings at the White- all and Glens Falls games by holding the Maroons scoreless, and losing to the Indians y only two points. This was a moral victory. Halfback Joe Leombruno, Guard John Fitz- erald and Linebacker Bob LaRock relieved Dick Kobor, Porter Reed and Mike Oddy espectively in defensive berths. Guard Tom Wood, Tackles Don Dixon and Dick Reynolds, nd Ends Jim Prendergast and Bob Canales ground it out all the way with Jim Gormely nd Jerry Dwyer seeing much action. Veteran Halfbacks Larry Hawkins and Sam Grover, and Fullback Dick Kobor did nost of the ball carrying this year. Mike Oddy called the signals. With the passing arms if Oddy and Hawkins and the glue fingers of Canales, Prendergast and Grover, the Bull- Inns had an excellent passing team this year.
