JACK CELESTE GARY LASHWAY BILL CUTLER GARY DUELL LOREN RHODES PHIL FARRY with COACH GRAY VICTORY AGAIN WORM'S-EYE VIEW OF THE BENCH Under the guidance of Coach Lyle Gray, South High's football team wrapped up another good season. Although the squad had only two veterans from the previous championship team, the squad worked hard and, when the dust cleared, it sported a 4-2-1 record. When game time rolled around at Warrensburg, it found Bill Cutler and Loren Rhodes at ends, Jack Celeste at center and Gary Lashway, Phil Farry and Gary Duell in the backfield. South High won this game 40-24. The squad had little trouble in beating Cambridge 49-6 and then came the all important Salem game. The game was played under the lights before a crowd of over one thousand. lt could have gone either way, but Salem finally squeezed out a 13-6 victory in a game that had fans talking for weeks. The Bulldogs played Greenwich in another thriller which ended in a 26-26 tie. The following Saturday we iourneyed to Ballston. It lust wasn't our day and the final tally showed Ballston 40 to South High's 27. South High, looking the best they had all year, then rebounded and defeated Hoosick Falls 38-l2. The Bulldogs ended their season on a winning note by defeating Schuylerville 33-l7. At the end of the season, South High was honored when the Tri-County League chose Phil Farry to play first string back, Loren Rhodes second team end and Gary Lashway second team back, on the All-Star Team.
